FirstCare Health Plans Announces Network Change
AUSTIN, Texas (July 16, 2010) - Today, officials from FirstCare Health Plans announced they have been notified by Scott & White - Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center (HBMC) of its intent to terminate its contract, effective Sept. 1, 2011. While we are disappointed in Scott & White - HBMC's action, we respect its decision to end our 15-year relationship.
At FirstCare Health Plans, we are focused on working with high quality, efficient providers, and we have worked hard to develop a strong provider network in Waco and the surrounding area. We are confident that FirstCare members will continue to have access to affordable, quality care.
In addition to access, we are committed to being responsible stewards of our clients' funds, and we strive to develop products and contracts that make health care affordable and provide a better clinical experience for our members. A good example is our work with the Providence Healthcare Network in developing a new lower-cost, exclusive network product benefiting the Waco community.
Given today's economic reality, it is more important than ever that all employers have options that allow them to continue to provide cost-effective health insurance coverage for their employees.Often these options include developing select networks with individual hospitals and their providers. Our original intention was to offer two lower-cost health plan options through Providence Healthcare Network while continuing to offer our traditional plans that contained both Hillcrest Health System and Providence Healthcare Network.Unfortunately, Scott & White - HBMC's termination will prevent us from offering a provider network with access to both Providence and Scott & White - HBMC.
FirstCare's strong presence in Waco means that we have a responsibility to make sure everyone in our community has access to affordable care. We've served this area for 15 years and we'll continue to be here for generations to come. While the situation with Scott & White - HBMC is unfortunate, we are unwavering in our commitment to our community and to being a good partner with area providers. We regret the potential disruption this termination may create for our members in the future.
We're pleased that Providence has chosen to work with us. We believe this strategy benefits the entire community. We will keep our members informed of the situation as it progresses.
