FirstCare Awarded Recertification of its NCQA Accredited Status

Monday, March 19, 2018

We are pleased to announce that the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) recently awarded full, three-year Accredited status again to FirstCare’s HMO lines of business (i.e., Commercial, Medicaid, Medicare, and Marketplace). Effective 02/16/2018, this accreditation runs through 02/16/2021. As with our original accreditation in 2015, we pursued this accreditation because of our commitment to the highest quality health care for our more than 170,000 members throughout 108 counties in North, West and Central Texas.

NCQA Accreditation recognizes FirstCare’s ongoing commitment to providing quality health care to our members as health plans earning this accreditation are shown to outperform non-accredited health plans across a wide range of measures, including clinical quality and member satisfaction.

Our accreditation status was awarded after rigorous evaluation by NCQA of all aspects of our plan, including preventive health services, member satisfaction, physician credentialing and quality improvement.

We know that health care is a personal choice, and we thank you for choosing FirstCare. If you have any questions about your health care coverage or FirstCare’s NCQA Accreditation, please contact your health insurance agent, call FirstCare’s Customer Service Team at the number on your FirstCare Member ID card, or email cservice@firstcare.com.

NETWORK UPDATES—New Providers for Lubbock Area FirstCare Members

Monday, March 12, 2018

We’re pleased to announce that as of February 1, 2018, the following changes went into effect for our members using the FirstCare provider networks listed below (in the Lubbock area):

  • FirstCare Select HMO members:  FirstCare’s majority owner-hospital—Covenant Health—acquired Grace Health System (GraceHealthSystem.com). This means that Grace Health System providers—including those at Grace Medical Center and Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) and Grace Clinic—are now an in-network provider for FirstCare Select HMO members.
NOTE:  Grace Health System was in-network for FirstCare Select Plus HMO members, prior to February 1, 2018.

  • All FirstCare members:  On February 1, Covenant Health also acquired West Texas ER (WestTexasER.com), making all of their locations an in-network provider for FirstCare members in the Lubbock area.

IMPORTANT—It Pays to Stay In-Network for Lab Tests

Friday, January 26, 2018

You may know the benefits of staying in-network for doctors and hospitals, but did you know that you benefit by staying in-network for lab services too?

Lab services—such as blood tests, biopsies, etc.—are typically ordered by your doctor and are sent out to a lab for processing. In other cases, you’ll visit an outpatient lab for these services. Your doctor can refer these services out to many different lab providers, both in-network and out-of-network. In order to make our health plans more affordable and help you get the most out of your benefits, effective March 1, 2018, FirstCare is changing how we cover unauthorized lab services from out-of-network lab providers.

We’re sending letters to all of our members to explain this change, and to let them know what they can do to make sure their lab work is handled by an in-network lab services provider.

In the meantime, you can visit FirstCare.com/Find-A-Provider to see what labs in your area are in-network for your plan. And, as always, you can contact FirstCare Customer service for assistance—simply call the phone number on your member ID card.
