Today's Aging Population is Living Longer

As the Baby Boom generation ages towards, and past, retirement age, one can see that modern medicine and technology have done a remarkable job of keeping people living longer, since until the 20th century ushered in its medical breakthroughs, humans lived much shorter lives.
 
These days, people are experiencing longer and longer amounts of time spent in retirement—now living another 20 or 30 years beyond their time spent in the workforce. However, as people age, the costs associated with keeping them alive continue to rise, and since the ability of modern science and technology helps them live longer, everyone needs to plan for these later years.
