Last week, officials from the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce and FirstCare Health Plans gathered at the Lubbock Chamber’s Business Expo event and celebrated the 10-year anniversary of the Chamber Employer Health Plan. It was during the same Chamber event in 2016 that FirstCare and the Chamber unveiled the health insurance plan for Chamber members.
The health plan is designed to be an affordable health plan option for Lubbock area business owners to offer their employees. The plan is also the result of an ongoing collaboration between FirstCare, the Lubbock Chamber of Commerce, Covenant Health (one of FirstCare’s owners) and University Medical Center (UMC) Health System.
“We’d like to thank FirstCare for their partnership as well as our members who have supported this plan with their enrollment throughout the past decade,” said Lubbock Chamber Chairwoman Beth Bridges.
At its launch, the Chamber Employer Health Plan covered approximately 5,000 enrollees during its first six months. Those numbers climbed to 10,000 enrollees a year later—with almost 20 percent of new enrollees having had no previous major medical health coverage.
Today, the Chamber Employer Health Plan operates on a private exchange and offers several options that are compliant with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requirements.
