Mosquito Repellent—2017 Medicaid Benefit

Texas Medicaid now covers certain mosquito repellent products as a Medicaid benefit for the prevention of Zika virus. Zika can cause severe birth defects in unborn children whose mothers are infected while pregnant. Because there is not a vaccine to prevent the disease or medicine to treat it, it is important for women to use repellent to protect themselves and unborn babies.

FirstCare Awarded NCQA Accreditation

On Wednesday, March 11, 2015, FirstCare received word from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) that we have been awarded Accredited status for each of our lines of business (Commercial HMO, Medicaid HMO, Medicare HMO, and Marketplace HMO). This accreditation lasts for three years. 

We pursued this accreditation because of our commitment to the highest quality health care for our more than 175,000 members throughout 108 counties in west Texas.
