FirstCare Health Plans Acquisition

Scott and White Health Plan, a part of Baylor Scott & White Health, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire FirstCare Health Plans from current owners Covenant Health System and Hendrick Health System. Pending regulatory approval, the acquisition is expected to be finalized in early 2019.

Acquisition Specifics

Here are some details pertaining to this announcement:
  • The definitive agreement for this acquisition was signed in October 2018.
  • After regulatory approval, we anticipate the deal will close in early 2019.
  • Per the agreement, Scott and White Health Plan will acquire FirstCare Health Plans from Covenant Health and Hendrick Health System.
  • Together, Scott and White Health Plan and FirstCare Health Plans will:
    • Enhance service to members;
    • Improve operations and technology; and
    • Honor our shared histories of service to our communities in North, Central and West Texas.

What happens next?

Nothing changes today for Scott and White Health Plan or FirstCare Health Plans, and it’s “business as usual” for our employees, members, agents, physicians, hospitals and other providers. Members and employer groups will notice no immediate changes to their coverage.

The definitive agreement—signed by Scott and White Health Plan, Covenant Health and Hendrick Health System—is now subject to regulatory approval. Upon approval, we expect the acquisition to be finalized in early 2019.
