FirstCare Health Plans Acquisition

As of January 1, 2019, Scott and White Health Plan, part of Baylor Scott & White Health, has acquired FirstCare Health Plans. The combined plans will cover almost 400,000 members across North, West, and Central Texas.

Our organizations are now beginning the important work of transitioning into one, first-rate organization to provide our members, providers, agents and employees with a best-in-class experience. We are excited to learn from each other and grow together over the coming weeks and months — all to better serve you.
“For more than 35 years, Scott and White Health Plan has served Central Texas and surrounding communities. Uniting our health plans will allow us to ensure the long-term viability for both, continuing our histories of Texans serving Texans.” — Jeff Ingrum, President and CEO, Scott and White Health Plan

Why are Scott and White Health Plan and FirstCare Health Plans doing this now?

The organizations remain dedicated to operating provider-owned health plans, always looking for opportunities to increase access to high-quality healthcare and affordable coverage for members.

Together, we look forward to being able to improve care continuity while expanding access to primary and specialty care doctors, hospitals and post-acute facilities for our friends, families, neighbors and members.

What happens next?

Nothing changes today for Scott and White Health Plan or FirstCare Health Plans, and it’s “business as usual” for our members, agents, physicians, hospitals and other providers. Members and employer groups will notice no immediate changes to their coverage.

We’re committed to keeping you informed along the way, and we will provide you with additional information when we have more to share.
