Expecting the Best® Maternity Program

Our Expecting the Best® Maternity Program is available for pregnant moms! Our goal is for you and your baby to have the best health during your pregnancy. This free program is offered by FirstCare and administered by Optum™.

The program includes:
  • Find a doctor
  • Access to the BabyLine® - This toll-free phone line is available 24/7. You can speak with a nurse, who will answer your questions…even on the weekend. Call 1-844-348-2229.
  • Personalized attention – We want you to better understand and manage your pregnancy. We’ll ask you questions on how you’re doing, and the answers will let us know how we can help.
  • A free book on pregnancy – After signing up, you’ll receive a free copy of Your Journey Through Pregnancy. It contains tips on wellness, nutrition, possible high-risk conditions, and the delivery of your baby.

Support for Moms with Newborns

When you talk with FirstCare’s Health Educator about your new baby, you will receive a free diaper bag. This has many new baby items inside such as clippers, lotion, and shampoo. The new member packet for your baby will include “Information for Parents of Newborns”. It is full of helpful information such as:

  • What will happen at checkups
  • Vaccines (shots)
  • Safe sleep positions
  • What to do when your baby cries
  • Benefits for your baby in the local community

Call FirstCare Customer Service at 1-800-431-7798 (STAR) or 1-877-639-2447 (CHIP). We're open Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding state approved holidays. If you call after hours, please leave us a message. We return all calls the next business day.
Our Customer Service Representatives speak both English and Spanish. If you speak another language, we can connect you with an interpreter.

Members with hearing loss can call the Relay Texas number 7-1-1. Relay Texas is a free telephone interpreting service to help people with hearing or speech disabilities.

Need care advice? Should you see a doctor? FirstCare members can talk to a nurse by calling 1-855-828-1013. Get answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Information is available in English and Spanish. Interpreter services available upon request. TTY users can call 7-1-1 or 1-800-955-8771. Voice communication is available at 1-800-955-8770.
